Console Confessions of a Female Gamer

Hi guys! I haven't blogged in awhile because I started a new website where I blog about video games, gaming news, and game reviews! Please check it out, it's called "Console Confessions of a Female Gamer", and I'm always looking for female gamers who want to write an article or two for the site!

COOKBOOK

I wrote a cookbook and I'm thinking of having a lomograhy-style to the photographs of the food, to give it some edge, so here are some layouts/designs that I've been thinking of:

Bill Willingham's "Fables", "Fairest", and Telltale's video game spinoff

I never saw myself as a comic book geek -at least, not the hard core cliche with thick coke bottle glasses, droopy socks and a case of the sniffles (for some reason that's the image that comes to mind).  I read the occasional comic strip in the Sunday paper and watched cartoons, but that was the extent of it.  But as an artist, I learned that art is everywhere, and shutting myself off to any part of it is ridiculous.  Reputation be damned.  I'm still not sure if my sniffles came before or after I started reading comic books.
After dating an actual "comic book geek" (a heartbeat away from sleeping in Iron Man pajamas.....and yes, he does have a stuffed Iron Man on his bed), I was introduced to Bill Willingham's "Fables" -which took my love of Disney princesses and fairytale nostalgia and married it with my passion for mystery and modern day soap operas.  I'd call it the "least comic-y of the comic books", the same way I'd classify Cowboy Bebop as the "least anime-like of the anime" or Tombstone as the "least Western-y of Westerns".  A perfect "starter" comic for those nervous yet curious future geeks.  The artwork is absolutely breath-taking and the stories are fun and creative! Fables does a wonderful job creating a working community of our favorite characters.

I'm so excited to pick up my copy of the latest Fables spinoff, Fairest, that was released this month! I'm swinging by House of Secrets in Burbank tomorrow!
"Comic Book Geek" seems to go hand in hand with my "Gamer Girl" persona, even though I'd like to think that I'm particularly more well groomed than the messy-haired, cheeto-stained hoodie-wearing stoner cliche that often is associated with girls who play video games.  So when I heard that someone was turning "Fables" into a video game series, I was thrilled!
But then I discovered that Telltale was the company that picked it up.  Ugh.  Why do bad things always happen to the things I like?  #FirstWorldProblems  To the people at Telltale; you have a HUGE responsibility to get this right, and if you pull it off, then I'll promote the hell out of your company, but so far you haven't really impressed me.  Good luck.  -J

Back to Blogging with Bundles!

Sorry it's been awhile -I just left my job at the production company that I've been working at for the past 3 years, in hopes of branching out and meeting new contacts at a new company.  More news on that once I get some job offers.

Anyway, with my time off I want to get back to blogging about cooking, gaming, and living in Pasadena.  Let's start with gaming:

BUNDLES!

Instead of looking forward to picking up new games this year, this girl gamer is excited to see some of her favorite game series being upgraded to 1080p HD and bundled together!  You bet I'll be be grabbing up the Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Kingdom Hearts HD bundles for my PS3!!!

And if you're into Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and a few others on this list, then you'll be glad to hear that those HD collections will be available soon as well.  When am I going to get a Spyro remaster for my PS3?  Huh?  Or Time Splitters? -speaking of, where is my 4th Time Splitters?!

THE FOUNDING

Hey all -I'm currently co-producing an EPIC film called "THE FOUNDING", and we need YOUR HELP to help us raise funds for this production!

The Founding began with a simple question: "if the United States had a mythology, what would it look like?" After a moment of thought, the answers seemed obvious - George Washington would possess super strength and the ability to turn into stone, Thomas Jefferson’s hair would be made of pure fire, and James Madison, the principle author of the Constitution, would be a giant Bald Eagle Griffin. These and other equally hyperbolic members of the team known as the Founders would join forces to battle Secret England, an oppressive force located at the core of the Earth, led by Two-Mile-High King George III. After meeting with several producers and graphic artists, we began working on how to turn this idea into an exciting reality.

Everyone who hears about The Founding is excited to see it completed. So we want to spread the word and give anyone who is interested a chance to contribute. We are currently raising money for the production of a short film version, with future hopes of expanding to a bigger project.

After breaking down the script and determining a budget for special effects, we’ve discovered that The Founding is no small project. So we are asking for donations to meet the demands of this ambitious project. The funds we raise through this campaign will go directly into the special effects, and production of the movie.

Epic Weapons teams up with EA's Alice!

If you're like me, then you saw the announcement posted by American McGee a few days ago and you're still picking up the pieces of your brain that exploded from failing to contain your excitement.  Yes, it's true, Epic Weapons teamed up once again with EA and created weapon replicas from Alice Madness Returns!  So far it's just the Vorpal Blade (2 sizes) and the mechanized-looking teapot.  No word yet on the hobby horse, but I'm crossing my fingers.  Also, how cool would it be to own a chess set with the characters from AMR?  Sorry, (white) rabbit trail.  Heh.  The Vorpal Blade from the original game is also available (and ON SALE!).  I put in my order for the mini Vorpal Blade (only $13!) -I need a new letter opener anyway.  :)

Also, check out the latest Launch Trailer for the game:

THE BIG NOIRE

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I am NOT an actor. -I just woke up the day before the "L.A. Noire" video game was released, decided to film something silly, and then I dragged Dustin and Kellen in at the last minute.  A special thanks to Justin Slosky, who could only be with us via picture!  No camera crew, lights, or microphones -just a little HD camcorder, so we all took turns filming when we weren't using the tripod.

Thanks to Dustin & Kellen, I had a blast working with you guys!

COMING SOON.....

As most of you know, the release date for "L.A. Noire" was last Tuesday, so I decided to dust off my HD camcorder, call a friend over, and make a little short film about it!  So far the game isn't impressing me that much, but I'm excited to keep working on my short film "The Big Noire", written by Dustin Hall, created by (also starring in) the both of us, and edited by me.

Detective Cooper and Dollface McGee are on the search for a missing girl, err, game "L.A. Noire", and will stop at nothing to bring her home safely.  I'm hoping to finish post production on this short by next week, so keep checking back!

Keep Following The White Rabbit!

The countdown continues for Alice fans!

Still itching to wield that hobby horse or vorpal blade on some deserving Wonderland baddies on June 14?  Patience, we all are, but in the meantime the “Art of Alice” book is now available in the Alice merchandise store online!  Full of the dark and twisted imagery from the collective genius that created this beautiful game!

T shirts, posters and a tote bag are also available and are sure to get any Alice fan geared up for the big release day!

You can also submit your Alice fan art on the facebook homepage, and view the other submissions here:

If you have been following the Alice MR news, then you already saw the latest trailer that was posted online yesterday.  But for those of you who haven’t, here’s the stylish new animated short that reveals a bit more of the storyline:

More good news –the fact that the original American McGee’s Alice is still over $50 for the Mac version of the game is infuriating, but it has been announced that the original game download will be available FOR FREE on your X-BO360 and PS3 with purchase of the console game!!!  So be sure to preorder your copy to get the code ($10 download otherwise).  Most of the Alice Madness Returns fans are newbies to the series, but for us veterans, it’s going to be awesome to finally play Alice on a console and I can’t wait!  ALSO they announced that the soundtrack (8 tracks) will be available for a free download with each game purchase.

If you like puzzles and “winning” –check out the puzzles that are being posted by American McGee on the EA website to get the chance to win free stuff, and keep checking back with me for more updates!

Keep following the white rabbit!
